About

For years, Preview Night! founder and editor Brian Guy has written about the shows he has attended. This usually involved sharing some pictures (not of the performance) on social media and writing about his favorite parts of the show. The motivation was to encourage other people to go experience the joy that Brian had just experienced.

“Seeing an understudy for Evan Hansen perform his debut mid-show after being rushed to the theatre, hearing the cast and crew cheer for him backstage after a 40 minute stage hold, and then watching him breakdown in tears at the end of show is just the most perfect live theatre experience ever,” says Brian, “and I want others to understand that when things go ‘wrong’ in a live Broadway show, this is exactly part of the amazing experience, the humanity, and the joy of live theatre! You just can’t get this same experience from perfectly edited film or television.”

As Brian started writing more about shows, his friends not on social media increasingly expressed FOMO, and his reviews were increasingly getting falsely flagged on social media as “violating community standards” (with no explanation as to why). Brian realized the content needed to move to a more reliable platform, and why not make it a formal venture in the process?

Thus, Preview Night! was born. And yes, we would rather call it Opening Night! but domain name availability is a tricky challenge. We are grateful to find an available domain name with just two words and three syllables, and Preview Night! will happily review Opening Night shows whenever possible!
