Operation Mincemeat is the true story about how Great Britain fooled the Germans in World War 2 by having fake invasion papers in the suitcase of a corpse posing as a dead soldier. This is a history lesson but in the form of a very fun musical. What makes this show work is the incredibly talented cast, the good music, and the very funny script.
While Jak Malone won the Tony Award for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical,” this entire cast is excellent. My performance had understudy Gerianne Pérez, who you may have recently seen in the national tour of SIX, fill in for Ewen Montagu and others, and patrons sitting around me agreed Gerianne was one of our favorite performers in the show (we loved them all).
You can tell this cast has been performing together for a while, as there is so much chemistry within this cast, and they work so well together. David Cumming, Claire-Marie Hall, Gerianne Pérez, Jak Malone, and Zoë Roberts were each exceptional despite playing so many characters!
The set is fairly simple in this show, and the music is a lot of fun. I enjoyed listening to the cast recording ahead of seeing the performance.
One tip is do not be late coming back from intermission, as the top of Act 2 is absolutely hilarious and not something you want to miss.
